Advice for Accessorizing Gearboxes
Many smaller gearboxes have a fill hole and a drain plug. The only way to tell if the gearbox has the proper amount of oil is to unscrew the fill plug and stick your finger in it. To improve this process, replace the drain plug with a sight glass. This makes it easy for anyone walking by to notice if there's a problem with insufficient oil. Now that you no longer need to open the fill cap regularly, replace it with an appropriate breather or quick-connects to add oil or deploy offline filtration. (Bill Jacobyansky, Guardian Industries)

Create a Motor Bearing Regreasing Strategy
When developing a regreasing strategy for electric motors, you first will want to establish a way of tracking each motor as an asset. Next, find as much information on each motor as possible, including the date of installation, horsepower, revolutions per minute, bearing type, type of duty, volts, frame size, warranty, etc., as well as the last vendor to repair the motor and the type of grease and bearing used. Be sure to start with your most critical motors and new replacements.

Why Lubricants Must be Handled with Care
While exposure to some oils and greases carries little to no risk of health problems, others can be quite toxic. Care should be taken every time contact with oil or grease is expected. The best way to avoid problems is simply by employing good housekeeping skills. Making sure everyone is informed about the risk of leaks and exposure to lubricants will go a long way in reducing health issues caused by prolonged contact.
